Five Science Fiction Novels

Five Science Fiction Novels (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Libertaria started out as an unfinished
sci-fi short story about a young scientist who discovers that she has been experimenting on her own mother. The story had evolved considerably. The protagonist became a teen escapee from the genetics factory and the scientist divided into several scientists known as the Collective. While the mother/daughter relationship is explored in the opera and novel, complex relationships between each character makes for an intriguing web of danger and deceit.

Read Chapter 1 from the Sci-Fi Novel Libertaria

As the opera wraps up production this summer, I am working on the novel version of the story. The novel Libertaria will explore the backstory and history of the Genetics Factory, Lucinde, Simeon, and Libertaria.

It is complex working in cross-media. Libertaria will exist as an opera,
as a film, as music, and as a novel. The story is so complex, and there
are so many angles that no one media source can contain the saga.

It is said that each writer writes the same book over and over, that each
artist says the same thing a million ways with their brushstrokes, that
each composer writes the same song over the course of their lifetime. I
think Libertaria may be that story for me and for the world.

After a few months of work, I finally completed the Opera Finale! You can check out the instrumental version at soundcloud below! The track was inspired by a Tran-Siberian Orchestra concert I went to in December. Solo piano, loud rock hits, and energy…lots of energy for the grand finale of Libertaria!

http://sabrinapenayoung.blogspot.com/Buffalo, NY – April, 19 2013 – After two years, the machinima opera Libertaria: The Virtual Opera enters post-production. Excited to create a digital opera of the future, Young wrote an original libretto, composed a full cinematic opera score, and directed the entire an opera production exclusively online. An all-volunteer cast and crew produced the feature length animated opera without a single live rehearsal. This week Young launched a crowdfunding Kickstarter project to help with final mastering costs. Libertaria: The Virtual Opera will premier at a regional choral festival in October 2013 in Lake Worth, Florida. Composer Dr. Clare Shore will host the event.

“After two years of recording, animating, and directing, it’s just great to see the opera finally come together! The light is at the end of the tunnel!” – composer Sabrina Pena Young.

The Electronic Opera Kickstarter campaign runs from April 19th to May 19th. All crowdfunding will help with final opera production costs. The Official Libertaria Cast Album will be available in September 2013.

Alt Rock Singer Matthew Meadows performs his own unofficial mix of the jazzy “Metal Ink” from Libertaria: The Virtual Opera.

Matthew Meadows and Perry Cook share the lead role of Simeon, leader of the Underground militia, addict, and incredibly dysfunctional father figure in this exciting animated sci-fi opera by contemporary composer Sabrina Pena Young.
