Megan Davies makes a living mostly off of YouTube.

The Harrisburg native, who has achieved viral success with several of her song covers, is a YouTube partner, which enables her to split advertising revenue with the company.

Davies said YouTube content creators such as herself get paid about $1 or $2 CPM (cost per 1,000 views). YouTube did not respond to PennLive’s interview request.

Davies’ most viewed video on YouTube, a mashup of Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” and Maroon 5’s “Sugar,” garnered 8,020,844 views at the time of publication. This would mean the ad revenue is between $8,000 and $16,000 from this video, although Davies said she only receives a small percentage of this due to the fact that the publishers for each of the songs being covered receives a percentage.
